The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is Switzerland’s international cooperation agency within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). Swiss Humanitarian Aid (SDC-HA) is one of four departments of SDC. The Swiss Humanitarian Aid department focuses on emergency aid, the reconstruction and rehabilitation of disaster-stricken areas, and disaster risk reduction. Under the mandate of saving lives and alleviating suffering, it places the victims at the center of its engagement in a spirit of neutrality, independence and impartiality. To realize its objectives SDC-HA complements its operational activities by supporting and assisting international organizations, and more generally, the humanitarian aid system, to deliver results and improve performance of the same.
The Government of Switzerland describes its partnership with the GHL in the following terms:
"Switzerland, the first country to commit to supporting the initiative, has played a key role in establishing the GHL. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation will accompany and support the GHL on a strategic level as a member of the GHL Governing Board. Furthermore, SDC is looking to advance best practices through exchange between its own pool of technical experts and the Lab."
